ANTI-BOOK PIRACY FILM

I was tasked with tackling book piracy head-on for UNESCO Sharjah World Book Capital 2019. For this project, I took on the role of conceptualizer, script writer, and creative director and worked with an animator to bring this idea to life. My aim was to flip the script on traditional anti-piracy messages; moving away from the usual "it's illegal, so don't do it" angle, and instead highlighting the exhaustive process behind book publishing, advocating for the value of written works beyond their price tag. In essence, this wasn't just about legality, it was about appreciation and respect for the creative journey. This friendly and enlightening campaign, launched on social media, not only sparked important conversations about the challenges of piracy and the true value of books but also highlighted the need for accessibility in literature. It was a refreshing take that resonated with audiences, proving that understanding and appreciation can go a long way in changing perspectives. I chose to add a small personal touch by using a real book by a local author as a means to make it more authentic and promote local talent.
